Trying Out On His Own

JS started to show interest in art and craft since last September. That was when his favourite television channel was showing Mister Maker (http://www.mistermaker.com/) everyday.

Since then we have been doing a lot more art and craft activities but most of the time, with a lot of guidance and help from me.

Last week, I decided to let him try out something on his own so I gave him some art and craft materials such as papers, sticky tape, liquid glue, scissors, ruler and colour pencils to do his work.

He enjoyed the freedom to be able to take charge and do as he wishes. He managed to fill up the drawing paper with different coloured papers and also used some sticky tapes to stick the papers together.

Towards the end of the session, I gave him the orange card (as you can see in the picture below) which he had not used and asked him if he would like to do something with it. He took the card and cut it immediately. After a few seconds, he held the card up and said: Mommy, it's a trousers!

JS saying: Mommy, it's a trousers!
I looked at it and said: Yes! It's a trousers.

So we went on to add some details on it such as the pockets and zipper.
He was very proud of himself for coming up with the idea that he showed it immediately to his daddy when he came home from work that evening.
